Optimization in SEO refers to how search engines see your website and check for relevant keywords. The best part when talking about on-page SEO is complete control will be in our hands.
Factors that will influence on-page optimization in SEO are meta tags, search-friendly URLs, heading tags, and using relevant keywords.
I will detail you step-by-step guidelines on how to optimize your WebPages as search engine friendly and get results.

On-Page Keyword Analysis
A keyword is any word or phrase in which a user enters in to Google search box as search terms.
To analyze your keywords you can use free resources like Google Suggest & Google Adwords Planner.
Google has a feature that suggests search terms when you begin typing in the search bar.
For example, when you search a query like “WordPress” and you will immediately see suggestions like “WordPress login”, “WordPress themes”, and “WordPress free themes”.
By using Google Suggest find frequently searched keywords and make a list of phrases that you want to rank for.
Take advantage of Google free Keyword Planner Tool to check the competitiveness of keyword phrases that you want to use.
Get Google free Keyword Planner Tool by creating a Google Adwords account.
Once you login-in find Tools & Settings area which is located at the top navigation.
When you open enter a word or phrase you want to rank for and click on Get Results.
You will be shown keywords, phrases, and ad groups that contain all the information about search terms.
Select twenty to thirty keyword phrases that you want to rank for and make a list.
Now choose the keywords with at least seven hundred monthly searches.
Avoid keyword phrases with 10,000 or more searches per month.
More searches on a particular keyword meaning high competitive keyword.
These simple steps will give you a basic idea of how to search for keyword phrases that you want to rank for. Include those keywords for better SEO optimization.

A meta tag provides information about your webpage in HTML and there are a variety of labels that you give on your webpage but we will discuss a couple of them.
Web page labels (naming) information will be stored in meta tags, and it is used by search engines to weigh the information.
Example of my home page meta tags information will be as below for my URL https://www.secondsource.in:

<title>Second Source – Guide to WordPress, SEO & ideas to Make Money Online</title>
Page description tag:
<meta name=”description” content=”Our aim is to provide every visitor best available information on WordPress, SEO, and tips to make money from home. We want you to earn SecondSource income.” />
From the above example, I used only two primary meta tags.
As Google does not consider keyword tag almost everyone stopped using this meta tag.
Meta tags like ‘author’ and ‘robots’ are helpful but these two are crucial.
Use your keywords in both title tag and description tag, and make sure the title tag is 7 – 60 characters. and description tag is 150-160 characters.
SEO Friendly URL
Most people think that having an exact keyword in URL will boost ranking but that’s not true.
I do believe having a keyword in URL is helpful but not an exact match.
Changes in Google updates become smarter in identifying the exact match domains and started to penalize.
And an important factor to consider is your URL length.
According to a recent survey by Ahref shorter URL performed better in search results.
Another technique that helps in terms of SEO for an URL buying is aged domains. An aged domain will have some traffic and inbound links it helps in ranking.
Make Your Website https://
We normally find any website either starts with http:// or https://, the one which starts with https:// is secure.
https:// starting websites have SSL certificate which means they are secure.
SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer.
Having an SSL is very important as it protects sensitive information and your website.
SSL certificate is provided by most hosting companies with a small investment.
If you don’t have an SSL get one now to improve your rankings.
Keep Your Code Clean
When I tell you to have a clean code you may think I am a programmer but I am not.
Having proper code and format helps you to optimize your SEO and boots your rankings.
But how to check if your blog/website is meeting standards or not, here is a simple way just click on the link and check for errors in your code W3C Validator.
If you found errors get that fixed by someone who knows to code and this helps to have a clean code.
Heading tags are very important to read your content by your visitors and search engines.
Headings help to understand the content easily and quickly to know what you are writing.
Using larger to smaller heading tags according to the importance of content helps both visitors and search engines to read.
Overusing and unnatural way of placing heading tags will hurt readability and performance.
Use tags <h1>, <h2>, or <h3> as appropriate and make sure to include your keywords into it.
Alt Image Tag
Alt tag can be explained simply by saying practice proper naming to your photo, image, or an icon used in your blog/website.
The benefit of using an Alt tag is when the image is loading or something goes wrong with the image your text will be displayed.
Use keyword phrases when naming and the best part, it helps in evaluating your website content by search engines.
You can name your images when uploading.
Avoid Using Flash
Avoid using Flash on your pages to ensure that your website code is up to standards.
Flash intros do not provide friendly keyword content that is easy for Google to search.
Even if the flash intro is carefully developed with keywords in shape and form, Google spider won’t be able to read.
Home page with less room for text and filled with flash is not good for on-page SEO optimization.
Rather I would recommend an HTML focused home page.
If its important for you to use flash then consider using Slider Revolution plugin which is available in WordPress.
It helps you to optimize your home page and increase the number of visitors and they can see your Flash too.
Upload XML Sitemap
When considering on-page SEO strategies sitemap plays an important role as this is the page that has access to all other pages on your site.
The main purpose of a sitemap is to serve search engines to spider your site quicker.
You can upload your sitemap to Google Search Console by using Yoast WordPress plugin.
